Week I - Introduction and Chapter 1

As we begin this course in exploring the foundations of our Christian Faith, I will like to begin by first revisiting our course in Christology. After our gathering prayer, I would like to do the following:

1. I would like to "plumb" Jean Vanier's "Vision of Jesus" handout.

2. Next, I would  like to entertain Dr. Martin Luther King's But If Not Sermon.  A transcript will be provided in class. We will discuss what he means by "faith," namely the difference between an "If" faith and a "Though" faith and what he means is the ultimate "essence" of religion. I will begin the video at the 9'11" mark.

3. Your homework for this upcoming Thursday's class is to have  read the Introduction and Chapter 1 of "Quest for the Living God" AND  have completed in your notes (on looseleaf) the Reflection and Discussion questions found at the bottom of the handout from last Thursday.
Here is a Google Drive link to the handout just in case you cannot find your copy:https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BzWTqMzrV0EjWHNIUEF1X2pxa3c/view?usp=sharing

These questions are very important for processing not only Johnson's work, but our own "faith life."
Also,  please note areas of the text where you might have some questions and/or have found some insight.
Thank you!
